  1. Some possible links, beginning (obviously) with the title (I'd link it the first time it's mentioned)... Peloponnesian War, Thucydides, Alexander the Great, ...

    And "modern war" invites a graphic illustration (not too graphic!)... Same for Russia/Ukraine...

    Maybe embed some of the text of this essay, from Google Books. See if you can find a relevant video to embed and discuss.

    Maybe also discuss parallels between what WJ was talking about and the modern Peace Corps...

    To the point about political polarization, note that soldiers typically don't worry about whether their comrade in arms is republican or democrat. That's precisely because they do share a common goal, which makes them a "band of brothers" etc. So perhaps something like a peacetime conscription is what we need, to get people to focus on what they share rather than on what divides them.

    Can you reformat, so that it's not in picture mode? It needs to be possible to highlight and copy bits of your text.
