I'm back, to class if not fully to form. We're behind, obviously, and need to catch up. All who had their presentations postponed, be ready.
And: Happy Opening Day! Expectations for my team are low, but today they begin the year in first place. Let's go!
Do Humans Need To Eat Meat? Facts vs. Fiction by Michael Joseph.
ReplyDelete-Apparently, it isn't the meat itself that is necessary, it's the vitamins within that meat. They are easier to obtain through the consumption of meat however, you can replace them using other supplements. It becomes harder for vegans and vegetarians to obtain the nutrients since they are not readily available in plants.
-The nutrients within meat(in general) are essential and it isn't restricted to red meat only.
McAfee, Alison J., et al. "Red meat consumption: An overview of the risks and benefits." Meat science 84.1 (2010): 1-13.
-This scientific paper though has data that suggests otherwise. The amount of essential nutrients and proteins within people who consumed some type of meat, vs people who were vegetarian or vegan was significant with the author stating "This review of the risks and benefits associated with red meat consumption has shown that consuming moderate amounts of lean red meat, as part of a balanced diet, valuably contributes to intakes of essential nutrients and possibly to intakes of LCn3 PUFA and CLA, but its contribution to risk of either CVD or colon cancer warrants further research through larger controlled prospective studies before it can be definitively implicated as having a causative role in these diseases."(McAfee, Alison J., et al 2010)
