Epicurus & Epictetus

Don't be confused.

But they basically agree on these points:

"If you live according to nature, you will never be poor; if you live to please the opinions of others, you will never be rich." — Epicurus (341 – 270 BCE)

"Happiness and freedom begin with a clear understanding of one principle: Some things are within our control, and some things are not." — Epictetus (c. 50 – c. 135)

(—Yes, and responsibility begins with this caveat: you don't know what is within your control until you try.)

I think Epictetus has a very good point as I do believe life would be so much less stressful if we understood that not everything is under our control. Sadly we are only humans and we essentially are programmed to want to control everything and it’s very hard to change that as we’ve done it for centuries.
