2330 years ago, Epicurus wrote about how too much low-quality pleasure results in the devastation of mind, body and spirit.
He advocated for true pleasure: which comes from the voluntary reduction of our need to be stimulated so that we can enjoy the simplest things more fully. Like breathing, thinking, conversing and living well.
The cheap dopamine-addled world we have built, with its infinite instant gratification loops that fuel anhedonia and anxiety, is Epicurus' version of hell.
