"… There is no simple way to banish the ennui of our age, but maybe it would help if we stopped looking at our own faces and turned instead to documenting the vanishing natural world in all its manifestations. Perhaps that change would change us in more essential ways, too. Would we finally learn to love the magnificent planet we were born to inhabit? Would we fight to save it?"

You're Pointing Your Camera the Wrong Way
I love this article. I agree that we as people need to spend less time on our phones and more time paying attention to our beautiful world.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely. Our collective online presence is becoming increasingly narcissistic. We need to value the natural beauty in front of us rather than focusing on ourselves.
ReplyDeleteI agree with her as far as people should capture the world as it is, but not everyone wants to do that. If a person wants to take a selfie at every monument they visit, then who are we to stop them? Everyone has their own reasons for taking photos, if you are annoyed by people taking selfies because of how "narcissistic" or "self-loving" they are then ignore them. They are not hurting environment, and they're probably not hurting themselves, or the people around them. I promise you, it's annoying to me too, but we don't know the story and reason behind every selfie, and not every person that takes photos have to take photos of the environment like a photographer.
