Indicate your topic preference in the comments space below. We'll do 2-3 presentations per class. Select a topic pertaining to something in the assigned reading on your designated date, OR select a topic in one of the recommended/reserved texts that hasn't already been covered. (see below*)
The blog post complementing your presentation is due to be posted on our site no later than Dec.5, but post earlier for potentially-constructive feedback or to support your presentation (you can continue to edit until the due-date).
UPDATE, Oct 27: Assignments have been made for this week. Coordinate with your classmates if you're both reporting on the same section of text, to avoid redundancy. If you've not yet made a request or received an assignment: you can still request any date that doesn't already have two classmates in your section scheduled.
UPDATE, Oct 31. We'll stay on schedule, if you miss(ed) your scheduled date just be ready whenever we have an opportunity to squeeze you in (and good luck). If you're not on the schedule, let me know. If you are on the schedule but don't have a topic, I suggest selecting something from the Recommended/Reserve list.

*
- The Philosopher Queens: the lives and legacies of philosophy's unsung women, by Rebecca Buxton and Lisa Whiting - because women have always philosophized too.
- Starry Messenger: cosmic perspectives on civilization, by Neil deGrasse Tyson - because we are cosmopolitans, citizens of the cosmos.
- Question Everything: A Stone Reader, eds. Catapano and Critchley - short popular essays by contemporary philosophers published in the New York Times, because philosophy is relevant to contemporary issues.
- Three Roads Back: How Emerson, Thoreau, and William James Responded to the Greatest Losses of Their Lives by Robert Richardson - because we'll all eventually lose someone close.
- Be Not Afraid of Life: In the Words of William James-companion anthology to Sick Souls Healthy Minds by John Kaag - because William James can save your life, or at least ameliorate it.
- Life is Hard: How Philosophy Can Help by Kieran Setiya - because we'll all eventually be challenged by something hard.
- Night Vision: seeing ourselves through dark moods, by Mariana Allesandri - because all is not sunshine and light.
