Writing Center

...Please encourage your students to visit the writing center for extra support on their assignments.

We have three different appointment types they may choose from:

  • Face-to-face: The tutor and student sit down and work together in our center in Walker Library 362.
  • Online live chat: This is a synchronous, online appointment with A/V capabilities.
  • Document drop: This is an asynchronous, online appointment where the student uploads the paper, then the tutor makes comments on it and sends it back.

All tutoring sessions are free, and we hire both undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of disciplines.

We also offer writing partnerships—standing appointments at the same time with the same tutor every week. These appointments are ideal for long projects, theses and dissertations, multilingual writers who want weekly support, or just anyone who wants to add more structure to their writing time. Requests for writing partnerships can be found here: https://writing-center.mtsu.edu/request-writing-partner/.

We are happy to come to your class. We offer 10-15 minute class visits where we tell your students about our services or 45-minute workshops on a variety of topics, including Integrating Sources, PowerPoints that Pop, Poster and Pitch, and University Writing Expectations. To schedule a class visit or workshop, please fill out the form found here: https://writing-center.mtsu.edu/workshoprequestform/

For more information, please visit our website at https://writing-center.mtsu.edu/, follow us on Instagram at mtsu_uwc, or feel free to email me directly at james.hamby@mtsu.edu.

Best wishes on the start of the semester, and we hope to work with your students soon.
