A skeptic’s responsibility

People tend to think of themselves as critical thinkers. Yet, most of these people will defend their own opinions vehemently. We could say that these people are skeptical of others’ opinions but would we call them skeptics? 

No. Skepticism as a philosophy encompasses all opinions. A skeptic should therefore be as (or even more) skeptical towards his own opinions than towards those of others. A skeptic, if he is to call himself one, is well advised to remind himself of the responsibility he has. This responsibility concerns primarily himself. He is responsible to assess an issue based on his own knowledge about the matter and about himself…
